Note: You can use a template or design your own resume. Resumes have standard formats, so review the formats before you begin.


1. Contact Information Write your contact information at the top of the page.

2. School Information Write your education and school information at the top of the page. Include all schools and honors.

3. Clubs & Sports List your clubs and sports along with any special awards as well as your roles and responsibilities.

4. Extracurricular Activities List your activities after school and over the summer along with any special awards as well as your roles and responsibilities.

5. Employment List relevant employment, dates of work, job title as well as a description of work.

6. Volunteer Work List relevant volunteer work, dates of service, volunteer title as well as a description of service/work.

7. Awards Either list your awards within each category or off in a separate list. Include the date and title of the award.

8. Skills List your skill sets in a different column. If a company or school is searching for a candidate with a specific skill sets, try to match your skill set to the best of your abilities.

9. Keywords Include keyword since often search engines are reviewing resumes before humans.

10. Review & edit Take the time to check over your resume and it helps to have friends and family check the document.
